Don’t Smile at Me
THIS GIRL oh my Lord. Her tone is magical. Her beats are insane. Her lyrics are genius… even if they are at times a little sadistic. But one thing’s for certain, she’s got something alright. Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She was discovered after uploading a song to SoundCloud that she had written and recorded for a dance class.
In 2016 Ocean Eyes became an overnight success. An organic fanbase began to form and praise poured in from listeners all across the world demanding more material. A year later, she now has over 4,000,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and a record deal with Interscope Records. Not too bad right?
Oh and also, she has achieved all of this by the age of 15. FIFTEEN. When I was 15 all I had was a comb over fringe and an extremely questionable fashion sense.
Although Eilish says that right now, far too many people focus on her age rather than her music, it’s hard not to appreciate how much she has already accomplished in such a short space of time.
Eilish is one to watch and I’m excited to see what she has in store for the future. I’m also waiting on that fashion line to drop.
Favourite track – Watch (Although I could list the entire album because every song is a no. 1). However, this track is a combination of airy, swirling vocals; a gorgeous piano arrangement and an amazing mix of percussion and synths. Put some headphones in and give it a go. You can thank me later.
My favourite track not on the album – Bored. This song was featured in the series 13 Reasons Why and I have never shazam’d a song so fast. It is B-E-A-U-TIFUL & I can still listen to it 1000x times consecutively.
